The Colonial BancGroup serves its customers through its branch network, private banking offices, automated teller machines, and the Internet. As of December 31, 2008, it had a total of 347 branches, including 197 branches in Florida, 90 branches in Alabama, 19 branches in Georgia, 21 branches in Texas, and 20 branches in Nevada. The company was formerly known as Southland Bancorporation and changed its name to The Colonial BancGroup, Inc. in 1981. The Colonial BancGroup was founded in 1974 is based in Montgomery, Alabama. On June 3, 2011, Colonial Bancgroup Inc. went out of business as per its Chapter 11 liquidation filing under bankruptcy.
