This segment serves federal, state, and local governments; foreign governments; and domestic and foreign private concerns, such as utilities and oil companies. The company's Demolition segment provides commercial and industrial demolition services, such as interior and exterior demolition for site preparation, as well as environmental remediation services, which include the removal of asbestos and other hazardous materials. This segment serves general contractors; corporations that commission projects; nonprofit institutions, such as universities and hospitals; and local government and municipal agencies. Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation operates a fleet of 33 dredges, including 9 deployed internationally; 19 material transportation barges; 2 drill boats; and various other specialized support vessels. The company was formerly known as Lydon & Drews Partnership and changed its name to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation in 1905.
