Description: Algoma Central Corporation owns and operates a fleet of dry and liquid bulk carriers on the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Waterway in Canada. It operates in four segments: Domestic Dry-Bulk, Product Tankers, Ocean Self-Unloaders, and Global Short Sea Shipping. The Domestic Dry-Bulk segment operates 13 self-unloading bulk carriers and 8 gearless bulk carrier. It serves various sectors, including iron and steel producers, aggregate producers, cement and building material producers, electric utilities, salt producers, and agricultural product distributors. The Product Tankers segment owns and manages six vessels for Canadian flag services on the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence waterway, and the Atlantic Canada regions. The Ocean Self-Unloaders segment owns five ocean-going self-unloading vessels that carry bulk commodities, such as coal for power generation, crushed aggregates for construction, and gypsum for wallboard manufacturing. It also provides transportation services for the steel industry and for salt shippers. The Global Short Sea Shipping segment operates 10 carriers globally for specialized services and a fleet of 60 mini bulk vessels. Algoma Central Corporation also provides ship repair services. The company was formerly known as Algoma Central Railway and changed its name to Algoma Central Corporation in 1990. Algoma Central Corporation was founded in 1899 and is headquartered in St. Catharines, Canada.
