Description: ALLETE, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, primarily engages in the generation, transmission, and distribution of coal-fired, hydro, wind, and biomass co-fired power in the United States. The company operates in two segments, Regulated Operations, and Investments and Other. The Regulated Operations segment engages in the retail and wholesale of regulated electric, natural gas, and water services. It provides regulated utility electric services to approximately 143,000 residential and commercial customers and 16 municipalities in Minnesota, as well as 1 private utility in Wisconsin; and 15,000 electric customers, 12,000 natural gas customers, and 10,000 water customers in northwestern Wisconsin. This segment owns and operates 170 substations with a capacity of 11,322 megavolt amperes. The Investments and Other segment is involved in the coal mining operations in North Dakota; and real estate investment activities in Florida. It also provides seller financing; and develops or acquires projects that focuses on creating energy solutions via wind, solar, biomass, hydro, natural gas/liquids, shale resources, clean coal, and other clean energy innovations. In addition, this segment engages in the non-rate base generation; and holds approximately 6,100 acres of land in Minnesota. The company primarily serves taconite mining, iron concentrate, paper, pulp and wood products, and pipeline industries. ALLETE, Inc. was founded in 1906 and is headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota.
